Meet Andy, our dedicated Operations Manager at NorMed, overseeing the well-being of our exceptional team and ensuring the highest level of care for our clients. Little did Andy and Fleming know, their paths had crossed many years ago in the dynamic realm of emergency services. Back then, Fleming was a Training Officer, and Andy, a budding Student Paramedic at the London Ambulance. Andy wonders if he may have been on the “naughty step,” and suspects he often still is. Secretly, he holds great admiration for Fleming and feels fortunate to collaborate with him, fulfilling his dream job at NorMed.
With an impressive 14-year career as a paramedic and prior experience in secure mental health, Andy continues to find joy in clinical work and direct patient interaction. Currently, his focus extends to remote triage and frequent home visiting shifts, demonstrating his commitment to providing quality healthcare.
Andy’s diverse paramedic background includes serving as a flight paramedic for several years. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a shift to primary care, where he found new challenges and rewards. Recognising the critical need for clinicians to visit patients at home, Andy embraced this transition, developing a deep passion for primary care.
Beyond his role at NorMed, Andy runs a small coaching business, specialising in supporting individuals dealing with grief and loss. Drawing from his paramedic experience in high-pressure situations and navigating complexities of death, he integrates this unique perspective with personal encounters of loss to guide his clients through challenging times.
You might recognise Andy from recent appearances in the media, such as a short film for NHS England where he engaged with children about his role in a general practice setting. Additionally, he featured in the inaugural episode of BBC 1’s Ambulance, showcasing his dedication to the field.
In an intriguing twist of fate, Andy shares Fleming’s connection to Denmark. His partner, Dea, another Dane, resides a short drive from Fleming in Jutland. Family holds a special place in Andy’s heart, with three grown-up sons and two grandchildren, all of whom he maintains close relationships with.
Outside of his professional life, Andy is an avid wild swimmer and cyclist. He passionately supports NorMed’s commitment to using bikes for patient visits, aligning with his belief in sustainable and efficient healthcare practices.
Meet Jane, she’s our Admin Manager here at NorMed, and has been a steadfast presence since our early days. With a career deeply rooted in the world of emergency healthcare, Jane’s journey began in June 1996 when she joined the London Ambulance Service (LAS) as a Trainee Qualified Ambulance Person.
Her dedication and commitment to her profession were evident as she seized an opportunity to fast-track her career by enrolling in a paramedic course. Completing a rigorous six-week conversion course followed by a four-week placement, Jane achieved her goal in 1998, becoming a paramedic.
In 2001, Jane embarked on a part-time Paramedic Science Degree at Hertfordshire University, further enhancing her knowledge and skills. Simultaneously, she took on the role of Team Leader, effectively leading and guiding her team through various emergency situations until 2006.
Demonstrating her adaptability and competence, Jane pursued a secondment opportunity in 2006, becoming the Clinical Adviser to the Medical Director at LAS. This move took her from the Chase Farm Ambulance Station to the prestigious Waterloo HQ, where she served diligently for two years.
The year 2008 brought the introduction of the New Ways of Working (NWoW) program at LAS, and Jane was appointed as the Clinical Practice Manager for this transformative initiative. Her role significantly contributed to reshaping the clinical aspects of emergency healthcare within the organization, a responsibility she upheld until 2013 when NWoW merged into the Clinical Education program.
Ever the dedicated learner, Jane simultaneously pursued a Masters program in Health and Social Care Management. In 2016, she assumed the role of Assistant Director for People and Organisational Development, showcasing her leadership and management abilities, which she held for 18 months before leaving the Trust in 2017.
Outside of her role at NorMed, Jane has a passion for the picturesque landscapes of Yorkshire and runs a charming B&B in this beautiful region. Within NorMed, she serves as the bedrock, keeping everything and everyone on track, including her long-time friend and colleague, Flemming. We’d get nowhere without her extensive experience and dedication, making her an indispensable asset, ensuring the smooth operation of NorMed’s essential services.
NorMed UK Ltd. was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to connect the expertise of paramedics with the needs of primary care, improving access to healthcare for older and vulnerable patients. The driving force behind this vision is Flemming Jensen.
Flemming’s journey in healthcare began in Denmark in 1996, joining Falck, the world’s largest ambulance provider, followed by nearly a decade in emergency care with the ambulance service. In 2004, he relocated to Lon-don, joining the London Ambulance Service in 2005 to gain a deeper un-derstanding of the UK healthcare landscape.
A passion for mentoring and developing clinicians has been a constant throughout Flemming’s career. He transitioned into clinical management roles, including Clinical and Educational Lead for Greenwich and Croydon Boroughs, and programme lead developing the nationally recognised New-ly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) programme. His commitment to education and innovation led him to recruit and support international paramedics, ex-panding his impact on healthcare delivery. Since 2012, he has also sup-ported the Health and Care Professions Council as an international regis-tration assessor and expert investigator.
In 2018, Flemming transitioned to primary care, seeking a broader perspec-tive on the UK healthcare system. Managing housebound and care home residents as a paramedic, he then took on leadership roles within large general practices and a Primary Care Network. He spearheaded trans-formative changes to patient access, introducing data-driven triage and in-novative models to improve patient wellbeing. Flemming also established an outsourced call management service, LineIn, which has grown to serve nearly half a million patients.
Today, Flemming continues to drive change management in healthcare, helping practices implement efficient systems and total triage models, prior-itising both patient access and the wellbeing of practice teams. His experi-ence, passion, and commitment to innovation are at the heart of NorMed’s mission.
